Arthur Russell - Iowa Dream

Arthur Russell – Iowa Dream

Across nineteen tracks, Iowa Dream reveals the intimate songwriter at the heart of Arthur Russell’s restless musical world. Folk-rooted melodies, tender vocals and quietly adventurous arrangements sit alongside pop and dance grooves, connecting his Iowa upbringing with the creative energy of downtown New York.

The collection includes demos recorded in 1974 and 1975, alongside songs written during his time in Northern California in the early 1970s. Memories of home and family run through Just Regular People and The Dogs Outside Are Barking, while Barefoot in New York and I Kissed the Girl From Outer Space explore his playful, rhythm-driven side.

Personal yet full of unexpected turns, this is a record to settle into, following Russell’s voice between homespun reflection and off-centre grooves.
