Billy Joel - The Stranger

Billy Joel – The Stranger

Released in 1977, The Stranger is Billy Joel’s fifth studio album and the record that turned him into one of the defining singer-songwriters of his generation. His first collaboration with producer Phil Ramone, it brings together piano-driven rock, pop and jazz influences with Joel’s unmistakable gift for storytelling.

From the swagger of Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song) and the irresistible groove of Only the Good Die Young to the tenderness of Just the Way You Are and the epic Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, the album moves effortlessly between humour, nostalgia and heartbreak.

Packed with brilliant songwriting and melodies that have stood the test of time, The Stranger remains an essential piece of 1970s rock and pop history, and a record that deserves a place in any collection.
