Brian Eno – Ambient 1: Music for Airports
Released in 1978, Music for Airports is the first in Brian Eno’s Ambient series and the record that effectively defined ambient music as a genre. Conceived after Eno was stranded in a German airport and found the environment hostile and unstimulating, the album was designed to be music that could be either actively listened to or allowed to blend into the background.
Built from looping tape recordings of piano and treated voices, it creates a sense of stillness and space that remains extraordinary nearly five decades on. Presented here in a half-speed mastered edition for superior fidelity.
