Can – Future Days
Released in 1973, Future Days is one of the most celebrated albums in the Can catalogue — and the last to feature Damo Suzuki as vocalist. Founded in Cologne in 1968 by Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit, Can had by this point developed a sound that transcended the boundaries of ethnic, electronic, experimental and modern classical music.
Four tracks, but no filler: the album is anchored by the astonishing 20-minute Bel Air and the three-minute pop masterpiece Moonshake. Fluid, hypnotic and ahead of its time, Future Days has cast a long shadow — its influence acknowledged by artists from Portishead and Radiohead to New Order, Mogwai and Kanye West.
