Released on 20 May 2003 via Maverick Records, Deftones marked a defining chapter in the band's evolution. Their fourth studio album saw the Sacramento outfit broaden their sonic palette, weaving elements of trip hop and shoegaze into their signature alternative metal sound. The record was also the final Deftones release produced by longtime collaborator Terry Date until the arrival of Ohms in 2020, bringing an end to a creative partnership that helped shape some of the band's most influential work.
