Fugazi – The Argument
Released in 2001 on Dischord Records, The Argument is Fugazi's sixth and final studio album — and widely considered their most ambitious. Incorporating strings, piano and a second drummer (Jerry Busher alongside Brendan Canty), it pushes their signature angular post-hardcore into genuinely new territory without losing any of its power.
Cashout opens with an anti-gentrification fury that explodes into a screaming chorus; The Kill and Life and Limb move with a strange, swaggering gentleness; Strangelight is guided by piano; and the closing title track builds from quiet to devastating. A remarkable final statement from one of the most uncompromising bands in American music.
