Released in 1998, Version 2.0 is Garbage’s second studio album and the record that cemented their place as one of the defining acts of 1990s alternative rock. Produced by the band and Butch Vig, it refined and expanded the sound of their debut — bigger, more polished and more confident, without losing any of the abrasive energy that made them compelling.

Push It, Special, I Think I’m Paranoid and When I Grow Up gave the album its commercial reach, while tracks like Medication and The Trick Is to Keep Breathing showed the darker, more introspective side of Shirley Manson’s songwriting. A landmark of the era, and one of the best alt-rock albums of its decade.
