Gil Scott-Heron - Small Talk at 125th and Lenox

Gil Scott-Heron – Small Talk at 125th and Lenox

Gil Scott-Heron’s debut strips his sound back to voice and percussion, putting the rhythm, wit and force of his poetry at the centre. Small Talk at 125th and Lenox moves between biting social commentary and personal reflection, with sparse accompaniment giving every phrase room to land.

The album includes the original recording of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, alongside Whitey on the Moon and Brother. Who’ll Pay Reparations on My Soul reveals his expressive singing voice, offering another dimension to a record whose power lies as much in its delivery as in its words.

Direct, uncompromising and rhythmically alive, this is a foundational introduction to Scott-Heron’s blend of poetry, music and political expression.
