Horsegirl - Versions of Modern Performance

Horsegirl – Versions of Modern Performance

Chicago trio Horsegirl’s debut brings together wiry post-punk rhythms, scuzzy indie-rock melodies and the warm, noisy textures of shoegaze. Released on Matador, Versions of Modern Performance captures the collective chemistry of Penelope Lowenstein, Nora Cheng and Gigi Reece, with shared vocals and an instinct for experimentation.

Recorded with John Agnello at Chicago’s Electrical Audio, the album balances impressionistic lyrics with guitars that shift between haze, friction and memorable hooks. The elastic, propulsive Anti-glory offers a way into a record rooted in the spirit of 1980s and 1990s independent music, but full of its own playful energy.
