Le Tigre – Le Tigre

Le Tigre – Le Tigre

Originally released in 1999, Le Tigre is the debut album from Kathleen Hanna, Johanna Fateman and Sadie Benning. A scrappy collision of punk attitude, electronic beats, pop hooks and feminist politics, it turns drum machines, samples and lo-fi electronics into music made equally for dancing and making noise.

Deceptacon, Hot Topic, What’s Yr Take on Cassavetes? and Friendship Station capture the record’s lasting appeal: catchy and confrontational, playful but politically sharp. Its DIY spirit refuses to separate activism from having a good time.

Part electro-punk, part indie pop and part dance-floor protest, Le Tigre remains a record to move to and engage with.
