Originally released in 1999, Le Tigre is the debut album from Kathleen Hanna, Johanna Fateman and Sadie Benning, a brilliantly scrappy collision of punk attitude, electronic beats, pop hooks and feminist politics. Coming out of the riot grrrl world but looking firmly forwards, Le Tigre turned drum machines, samples and lo-fi electronics into something made equally for dancing and making noise.

There’s plenty of humour and playfulness here, but also real political bite. Tracks such as “Deceptacon”, “Hot Topic”, “What’s Yr Take on Cassavetes?” and “Friendship Station” capture what makes the record so enduring: catchy and confrontational, DIY without feeling limited by it, and completely uninterested in separating activism from having a good time.

More than 25 years later, Le Tigre still sounds wonderfully alive: part electro-punk, part indie pop and part dance-floor protest. This edition comes as a single LP on opaque vinyl.
