Led Zeppelin – IV

Recorded between Headley Grange, Island Studios in London and Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, Led Zeppelin IV arrived in 1971 and quickly became the album that carried Led Zeppelin into homes around the world. Although officially untitled — often referred to as Four Symbols or The Runes Album — it perfectly captures the band at the height of their creative powers, blending the heavy rock of their earlier work with the acoustic and folk influences they had begun exploring.

The album moves effortlessly between thunderous rock and quieter, more mystical moments. Tracks like “Black Dog,” “Rock and Roll,” and “Misty Mountain Hop” helped define the sound of 1970s hard rock, while “Going to California” and “The Battle of Evermore” reveal a gentler, folk-inspired side of the band. At the centre of it all is “Stairway to Heaven,” a song that builds from delicate acoustic beginnings into one of the most iconic climaxes in rock history.

A chart-topping success on both sides of the Atlantic, Led Zeppelin IV remains one of the most influential rock albums ever made — a record that balances power, mysticism and songwriting brilliance in equal measure.
