Lorde – Pure Heroine
Released in 2013, Pure Heroine is one of the most striking debut albums of the decade. Ella Yelich-O’Connor was 16 when she wrote most of it, and the record carries that perspective with remarkable clarity — suburban ennui, teenage restlessness and a sharp eye for the gap between aspiration and reality, all delivered with a voice and presence far beyond her years.
Produced by Joel Little, the album’s minimalist production — sparse beats, layered vocals, almost no live instrumentation — gave it a sound that felt genuinely new. Royals became a global hit, but Tennis Court, Ribs and Team showed the full depth of what the album had to offer.
A landmark debut that still holds up completely.
