M.I.A. – Matangi 2LP

M.I.A. – Matangi

Released in 2013, Matangi finds M.I.A. sharpening her sound and vision into one of her most direct and hard-hitting records. Blending global influences with electronic production and hip-hop energy, the album pushes forward with a sense of urgency: bold, confrontational and rhythm-driven from start to finish.

Tracks like Bad Girls, Bring the Noize and Y.A.L.A. capture that intensity, built on heavy beats and M.I.A.'s unmistakable delivery, while Exodus, featuring The Weeknd, offers a more atmospheric shift without losing momentum. The production is dense but controlled, balancing chaos and clarity in a way that feels distinctly hers.

As a double LP, Matangi expands on the ideas M.I.A. had been developing across her earlier work, bringing them into sharper focus. It's confident, political and sonically restless, a record that doesn't sit still, and doesn't ask you to either.
