Massive Attack – Blue Lines
Released in 1991, Blue Lines is the debut album from Bristol’s Massive Attack and one of the most influential British records of the decade. Blending breakbeats, sampling, live instrumentation and a wide range of influences — soul, reggae, hip-hop and dub — the album created a new sonic language that would come to define trip-hop and reshape the landscape of British music.
Unfinished Sympathy, Safe from Harm, Teardrop’s predecessor in spirit, and Be Thankful for What You’ve Got remain among the most distinctive tracks of the era. Featuring vocalists Shara Nelson, Tricky and Horace Andy, Blue Lines is a seminal record that still sounds unlike anything else.
