Miles Davis – Kind of Blue
Released in 1959, Kind of Blue is widely regarded as the defining jazz album — not just of Miles Davis’ career, but of the genre as a whole. Recorded in just two sessions at Columbia’s 30th Street Studio in New York, it brought together an extraordinary lineup: John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, capturing a moment of rare musical chemistry.
What sets Kind of Blue apart is its shift towards modal jazz, favouring mood and space over complex chord changes. Tracks like So What, Freddie Freeloader and Blue in Green unfold with a natural ease, each musician given room to breathe, listen and respond.
There’s a calm confidence running through the album and nothing feels forced, yet every note matters. Decades on, Kind of Blue remains as powerful as ever — a record that invites you in quietly and stays with you long after it ends.
