Recorded with producer Patrick Hyland, these 14 tracks show Mitski sharpening her songwriting while stretching her sound in new directions.

There’s a beautiful push and pull throughout: yearning harmonium drones, woozy keyboards, mournful organs and vocals that feel both intimate and theatrical. Folk-leaning songs brush up against country twang, flashes of orchestral strings appear and disappear, and there are even moments of disco-pop — the kind you can dance to while quietly falling apart. Subtle, strange and emotionally devastating in the best possible way.
