Released in 1988, Straight Outta Compton arrived without warning and changed everything. N.W.A — Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella — brought a raw, unfiltered voice from Compton, California that mainstream music had never heard before. Confrontational, precise and produced with a clarity that still hits hard, it defined West Coast gangsta rap and set the template for what came after.

The title track, Gangstas Gangstas and F*** tha Police were as much cultural statements as they were songs — direct, unapologetic and impossible to ignore. The production from Dr. Dre and DJ Yella gave the record its weight, layering hard-hitting beats beneath lyrics that documented life in South Central with unflinching honesty.
