Ornette Coleman - Friends and Neighbors: Ornette Live at Prince Street

Ornette Coleman – Friends and Neighbors: Ornette Live at Prince Street

Free jazz with the intimacy of a loft session. Originally released in 1970, Friends and Neighbors: Ornette Live at Prince Street captures Ornette Coleman in his New York loft, a space where musical ideas could stretch beyond the conventions of the jazz club. The setting lends this recording a direct, informal character, bringing the listener close to the interplay between four distinctive musicians.

Alongside Coleman are Dewey Redman on saxophone, Charlie Haden on bass and Ed Blackwell on drums. Coleman moves between alto saxophone and trumpet as the group explores spontaneous exchanges, elastic rhythms and playful changes of direction. Rather than settling into predictable patterns, the music stays open and searching, with each player helping shape its course.

A rewarding record for listeners drawn to adventurous jazz and the energy of musicians creating together in the moment. Put it on, settle in and follow the conversation as it unfolds.
