Released in February 1994, Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is Pavement's second studio album and the record that brought them closest to mainstream recognition without ever compromising what made them so singular. Looser and more melodic than Slanted and Enchanted, it trades some of that album's abrasion for warmth, hooks and a wry, sun-drenched Californian ease.

Gold Soundz, Cut Your Hair, Range Life and Stop Breathin are among the standout tracks on an album that captures Stephen Malkmus and the band at their most effortlessly brilliant — witty, tuneful and impossible to pin down.
