Pearl Jam – Vs.
Released in October 1993, Vs. was Pearl Jam’s response to the enormous pressure that followed Ten. Rather than leaning further into the spotlight, the band pulled back deliberately — refusing to make music videos for the album’s singles and resisting the machinery of mainstream rock stardom. None of that stopped it from making history: Vs. broke the record for most copies sold in its first week, a title it held for five years.
Sonically, the album is rawer, louder and more aggressive than its predecessor. Rearviewmirror and Dissident bring the fire, while Daughter, Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town and Indifference show the band’s softer, more emotional side. Pearl Jam pushing back — and sounding stronger for it.
