Placebo – Black Market Music
Released in 2000, Black Market Music sees Placebo pushing their sound into darker, more textured territory. Moving beyond the immediate hooks of their earlier work, the band leaned into mood and atmosphere, crafting a record that reveals itself gradually rather than all at once.
There’s a sharp edge running through the album, from the uneasy drive of Taste in Men to the addictive pull of Special K and Slave to the Wage. Spite and Malice, featuring Justin Warfield, brings an unexpected fusion of alternative rock and hip-hop, while Passive Aggressive slows things down into something more introspective and immersive.
Less direct but more layered, Black Market Music rewards repeated listening. Now available on standard black vinyl — a key moment in Placebo’s evolution: darker, more complex and quietly addictive.
