Pulp – Different Class
Released in 1995, Different Class is the album that made Pulp one of the defining acts of the Britpop era. Jarvis Cocker’s sharp, observational songwriting — class-conscious, funny, tender and occasionally devastating — found its fullest expression here, backed by a band at the peak of their powers.
Common People remains one of the greatest British singles ever recorded. Mis-Shapes, Babies, Disco 2000 and Sorted for E’s & Wizz are equally strong — a record that holds together as a complete statement from start to finish. Theatrical, synth-driven and completely its own thing.
