Ramones - Ramones

Ramones – Ramones

The Ramones’ self-titled debut distils the initial New York punk surge into something direct and uncompromising: fast, minimal and stripped of excess. Across its short runtime, the album maintains a relentless pace, but it is more varied than its reputation suggests.

I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend introduces a softer, almost pop sensibility, while 53rd and 3rd cuts in the opposite direction: harsh and unsentimental. What holds it together is its economy, with no ornament or drift, just repetition and impact. A record where simplicity becomes the point rather than the limitation.
