Roots is Sepultura’s sixth studio album and one of the most important metal records of the 1990s. Released in 1996 and produced by Ross Robinson, it saw the Brazilian band push their sound into entirely new territory — incorporating indigenous Xavante tribal percussion, traditional Brazilian rhythms and a raw, earthy heaviness that set it apart from everything else in heavy music at the time.

Tracks like Roots Bloody Roots, Attitude and Ratamahatta hit with enormous force, while the collaboration with the Xavante tribe on Itsari remains one of the most striking moments in the band’s catalogue. A record that sounds like it could only have come from Brazil — visceral, proud and completely original. Spread across two LPs.
