The Cure – Seventeen Seconds

Released in April 1980, Seventeen Seconds is The Cure’s second album and the record where Robert Smith and the band began moving away from the post-punk directness of their debut toward something more atmospheric and inward. Produced by Mike Hedges and Robert Smith, it introduced the sparse, layered sound that would define the band’s most celebrated work.

A Forest — one of the most iconic tracks in The Cure’s catalogue — appears here alongside Play for Today, M and At Night. Bleaker and more textured than Three Imaginary Boys, it set the direction for Faith and Pornography and remains a key document in the evolution of post-punk and gothic rock.
