Released in February 1984, The Smiths’ self-titled debut is one of the most important British albums of the decade — the record that introduced Morrissey and Johnny Marr to the world and immediately established them as one of the most distinctive songwriting partnerships in rock history. Produced by Troy Tate and remixed by John Porter, it arrived fully formed: witty, melancholic, literate and unlike anything else on the radio.

This Charming Man, What Difference Does It Make, Hand in Glove and Still Ill are among the defining tracks — a debut that set the template for everything The Smiths would go on to do, and influenced generations of bands that followed.
