The Stranglers – Rattus Norvegicus
Rattus Norvegicus is the debut studio album by The Stranglers, released on 16 April 1977 via United Artists. One of the defining records of the British punk era, it arrived with a swagger and musical sophistication that set the band apart from their contemporaries — darker, more keyboard-driven, and more menacing than almost anything else coming out of the London scene.
Tracks like Peaches, Grip, and (Get a) Grip (on Yourself) crackle with tension and wit, while Dave Greenfield's organ lines give the album a distinctly sinister edge. Rattus Norvegicus reached #4 on the UK Albums Chart and remains one of the essential documents of British punk.
