Tool – Undertow
Released in 1993, Undertow is Tool's debut full-length — raw, precise and still one of the most powerful records in their catalogue. Produced with clean, crisp clarity, it showcases the band at their most direct: edgy guitar riffs locked against heavy, spitting bass, with Maynard James Keenan's vocals at their most vitriolic.
Lyrically the album targets religious hypocrisy (Intolerance, Sober), the loss of innocence (Prison Sex) and deliberate ignorance (Swamp Song). Henry Rollins guests on Bottom. A landmark of 1990s alternative metal that has lost none of its edge.
