Before the sold-out arenas and gravity-defying stage shows, Travis Scott was a lanky teenager from the Texas suburbs, posting DIY videos online. Everything changed when Kanye West came across his self-released track Lights (Lovesick) and brought him into the studio for Cruel Summer. The hazy, chaotic mixtape Owl Pharaoh hinted that Travis was already thinking far beyond the usual hip-hop playbook.

By the time Astroworld arrived, that long-building vision was fully realised. The album feels like a grand opening — immersive, maximalist and meticulously crafted. Psychedelic synths twist and warp, drums hit with diamond-sharp precision, and hooks slither and stick. It’s the sound of an artist who spent years perfecting his world, and finally invited everyone inside.
