Ditz – The Great Regression
Released in 2022 via Alcopop! Records, The Great Regression is the debut album from Brighton noise-punk five-piece Ditz — and one of the most compelling British guitar debuts of recent years. The band first came together in 2015 and spent years building a reputation for chaotic live performances and a string of singles that caught the attention of Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music and prompted Idles’ Joe Talbot to declare them the best band in Brighton, if not the world.
The album is abrasive but undeniably accessible — ten tracks that sit somewhere between Gilla Band intensity and Foals-like propulsion, with lyrics that tackle minimum-wage grind, emotional intensity and the gap between public image and personal identity. Lead single Ded Würst is a ferocious opening statement. The Warden and I Am Kate Moss are among the most distinctive tracks in recent UK post-punk.
