Fat Freddys Drop - Based On A True Story 2LP

Fat Freddy’s Drop – Based on a True Story

Originally released in 2005, Based on a True Story is the debut studio album from New Zealand’s Fat Freddy’s Drop. Recorded in Wellington and released on the band’s own label, the album brings together dub, reggae, soul, jazz and funk in a warm, laid-back sound that feels effortlessly natural.

Shaped by years of live performances, the record moves through deep basslines, soulful vocals, rich brass arrangements and hypnotic grooves. Tracks like Wandering Eye, Roady and Flashback capture the band’s ability to let a song breathe, building atmosphere without ever losing the rhythm.

A modern classic of downtempo soul and dub, Based on a True Story is the kind of record that gets better with every listen.
