Joy Division – Unknown Pleasures
Released in June 1979 on Factory Records and produced by Martin Hannett, Unknown Pleasures is one of the most distinctive debut albums in rock history. Hannett’s production — cold, cavernous and unlike anything being made at the time — gave the record a sound that felt genuinely alien: drums isolated and treated, guitars submerged in reverb, space used as an instrument in itself.
Ian Curtis’ voice carries the weight of the whole thing — baritone, controlled and deeply unsettling. She’s Lost Control, Shadowplay, Disorder and New Dawn Fades remain among the most powerful tracks in post-punk’s canon. This 180g reissue replicates the original artwork and includes audio from the 2007 remaster.
