Collection: Joy Division

Joy Division were a post-punk band from Salford, Greater Manchester, formed in 1976. Ian Curtis (vocals), Bernard Sumner (guitar), Peter Hook (bass) and Stephen Morris (drums) created a sound unlike anything before them — cold, atmospheric and emotionally devastating, built on driving bass lines, sparse guitar and Curtis's distinctive baritone.

In just four years they released two studio albums — Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980) — that remain cornerstones of post-punk and alternative music. Following the death of Ian Curtis in May 1980, the remaining members continued as New Order. Joy Division's influence on music is immeasurable and their records have never stopped resonating.
