Blondie - Parallel Lines
Before Parallel Lines, Blondie were often seen as a retro-leaning band, drawing on ’60s pop, girl groups, and British Invasion influences. That changed completely in 1978 when veteran producer Mike Chapman stepped in and helped sharpen their sound into something bolder, sleeker, and far more powerful.
Focusing on the band’s real strengths, Debbie Harry’s magnetic vocals and Clem Burke’s explosive drumming, Chapman steered Blondie toward the pop edge of new wave with stunning results. Anchored by the punk-meets-disco smash “Heart of Glass,” the jittery urgency of “One Way or Another,” and the high-voltage cover of “Hanging on the Telephone,” Parallel Lines turned Blondie into global stars. Smart, stylish, and endlessly catchy, it’s a defining album of the era.
